artist bio

Tatiana Mayfield has performed with legendary artist Will Downing and opened for other well-known artists such as Kirk Whalum, Randy Brecker, Dave Valentin, Bobbi Humphrey and “The Main Ingredient”. In addition to that, she has sung with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, The Congressional Black Caucus, and in many of the best and most exclusive venues in DFW including Scat Jazz lounge and Dallas City Performance Hall.

Her first big break came at 17 after auditioning for the “Showtime at the Apollo Tour” show when it came to Dallas. She went on to compete in New York at the Famous Apollo theater on Live television.

In the fall of 2012, loyal fans pushed Tatiana's song “Real” from “A Portrait of LadyMay", her sophmore album, to the #1 slot on the “UK Soul Chart.”  So in the summer of 2013 Tatiana “LadyMay” Mayfield stepped off of an airplane and found herself in the London for her first international tour. She and her band were extremely well received on London’s top radio stations and popular performance venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express in Soho and the Flyover Portobello.

It’s no surprise the tour was a hit. LadyMay’s fan base is growing daily and it is worldwide. Her listeners hail also from All over the U.S., Switzerland, Germany, Nigeria, Brazil and France.

Many of her fans describe her sound and persona as refreshing and beautiful. And jazz lovers relish in the fact that LadyMay seems to be keeping the genre alive and well.

The voice is attractive with excellent elocution. - Scott Yanow, Jazz Critic

Her voice is very refreshing and joyful to listen to and her talent is undeniable. Her vocabulary includes classic and timeless jazz interpretations and her scat was described to be “as natural as breathing”. She also has an affinity to sing some excellent R&B interpretations.

A Portrait of Ladymay (2012) is her second studio album, after her first album From All Directions (2009) which she recorded with fellow students while she attended University of Northern Texas. A Portrait of Ladymay starts with For You, a lovely opener with Brazilian Bossa-Fusion influences and one of the highlights on the album. It is followed by several classic and post-modern jazz compositions where Mayfields shows her understanding of the style and interpretation.

The second part of the album surprises with some refreshing R&B compositions. Above all the song Real, which made it to the top of the UK Soul Chart in fall 2012. All in all a very enjoyable album from a young Jazz vocalist with a great potential. - Joseph Kunzli, Contemporary Jazz Club Austria
